One hair serum that I heard a lot of bloggers raving about is BioSilk Silk Therapy. So, I was curious if it was actually that great as people claimed it to be. I was fortunate enough to get it gifted! The full size bottle retails for around 18 euro's, which make this hair serum quite expensive.
So BioSilk is made by Farouk Systems which makes professional hair care products with hair brands such as CHI and ofcourse, BioSilk. BioSilk has 4 different types of ''therapy's'': Silk Therapy, Color Therapy, Hydrating Therapy and Volumizing Therapy. Each line all have different kinds of hair products. The original Silk Therapy is probably the most well-known product from their brand.
BioSilk states on their website that the Silk Therapy is ''a weightless leave-in silk replenishing and reconstructing treatment that helps repair, smooth and protect all hair types. They promise that the Silk Therapy will help with 3 different things:
1. Fills voids in cuticle to create smooth hair.
2. Aids in preventing split ends.
3. Provides incredible shine.
The key ingredient of this hair serum is hydrolyzed silk. Supposedly, silk contains 17 of the 19 amino acids that are ''similar'' to the amino acids in our own hair. So, the silk will help repair parts of our hair and create a smooth layer, it will strengthen the hair and prevent damage done by styling tools. In the picture below you can see all the ingredients in the serum. As you can see, it contains the ethyl ester of the hydrolyzed silk.
I noticed that it also contains a lot of silicone's, which creates a smooth layer around the hair cuticle. Personally, I have no problems with products containing silicone's. But I know that it can be con for some people. Furthermore, it contains a form of vitamin B5 (panthenol), this is used in a lot of hair conditioners to give the hair a shiny appearance.
INGREDIENTS:
Cyclomethicone, Dimethiconol, Sd Alcohol 40-B, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Ethyl Ester Of Hydrolyzed Silk, Panthenol, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Parfum (Fragrance, Benzul Benzoate, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Citronellol, Geranial, Hydroxycitronellal, Butylphenyl Methylpropional.
Now let's see if the Silk Therapy actually does what it promises. I find that the serum has quite a nice consistency. It isn't too runny and it also isn't too thick/viscous, which makes it easier to divide it and apply to your hair. The serum has is clear liquid, with no colour visible.

My hair with BioSilk Silk Therapy |
Do you see that difference?! I could definitely tell a difference in how my hair felt and looked after I applied the Silk Therapy! It made my hair noticeable less frizzy and it leaves the hair feeling very smooth. I also noticed that my hair is more shiny after I applied the serum. Another thing that I liked about the product is that it smelled really nice, but not in an obnoxious way.
BioSilk recommends to use 5 to 10 drops of serum in your hair. I found that you really do not need to apply that much. A little bit goes a very long way with this serum. I used 2 drops on each side of my hair, so 4 drops in total for all of my hair. So, depending on your own hair length you may need to use more or less of the product.
Now let's get back to the 3 promises BioSilk made:
1. Fills voids in cuticle to create smooth hair: YES! It made my hair feel extra smooth.
2. Aids in preventing split ends: I have to admit, I don't think I noticed any difference in preventing split ends. I don't actually apply the serum as a heat protect, since I never use any heat on my hair to prevent heat damage. So maybe it would actually help prevent split ends for those that use heat tools on a daily or weekly basis.
3. Provides incredible shine: Also of yes! It leaves my hair really shiny.
Conclusion: I LOVE this product! The Silk Therapy is my go-to hair serum if my hair is frizzy or on the drier side. It leaves my hair feel very smooth and in addition to that, provides a lot of shine. The only negative thing I can think about this product is it's price. It isn't the cheapest hair serum you can buy. For around 18 euros you will get 67 ml or 2.26 fluid ounces. But, I do think that the money is totally worth it. So, I would definitely recommend it to those with dry or frizzy hair!
You can buy the
BioSilk Silk Therapy for around 18 euro's at your local hairdresser or at beauty supply stores.
