REVIEW: Sleek Matte Me Lip Cream in Birthday Suit

Sleek Matte Me Ultra Smooth Matte Lip Cream in Birthday Suit

Recently, I went on a study trip to Manchester and I of course went shopping! I really wanted to check out Sleek, No.7 and Soap and Glory at Boots or Superdrug. I knew I wanted to pick up the Matte Me Ultra Smooth Lip Cream in Birthday Suit from Sleek. This is, I think, the most popular colour in the range and I noticed that, haha.

I went to both Boots and Superdrug, and of course the colour I wanted was sold out. Then I went to Pauls Hair and Beauty World and it was sold out again. So, I asked the lady at the counter if they had it in the back, luckily they had!

The Matte Me Lip Cream from Sleek is a liquid lipsticks with a matte finish. Sleek claims that it glides on in one smooth application, without needing to apply a second coat. The colour ''Birthday Suit'' is a pretty everyday nude colour that would suit a lot of skin tones in my opinion. In the picture beneath you can see a swatch on my arm, and as you can see it dries completely matte.

Ingredients (found on the Sleek website):
Dimethicone, Hydrogenated styrene Isoprene copolymer, Ceresin, Silica, BHT, Propylparen. May Contain: TITANIUM DIOXIDE/CI77891 RED,IRON OXIDE/CI77491 YELLOW,IRON OXIDE/CI77492 D&C Orange NO.5\CI45370:2 D&C Red NO.6\CI15850:2.

I like the packaging from Sleek, it doesn't look cheap and is very sturdy. The formula of the Matte Me Lip Cream is also really nice. It does glide on smoothly and is very easy to apply. It dries matte in about 20 to 30 seconds, after that it also hard to remove any mistakes you've made. So be sure to correct any mistakes when the lipstick is still creamy.

Sleek also claimed you need only one coat to have the perfect colour and coverage. You can do that, but I found that the colour always looked better when I applied a second coat.

My bare lips

Swatch of the Sleek Matte Me Lip Cream in Birthday Suit on my lips

I'm loving this colour on my lips, it is a classy natural colour. It also stays for quite some time on my lips. I was also wondering if this lip cream would dry out my lips, which can be the case for some matte lipsticks. But I can say that the Matte Me Birthday Suit definitely does NOT dry out your lips. Which is a huge plus for me!

However, the one thing I don't like about it is the texture after I ate or drank something. Especially food that is more on the oily side. After eating, the colour in the part of your lips will fade away and it leaves you with a not so charming edge on the outer parts of your lips. Therefore, I would definitely recommend using a lip liner or take the lip cream with you to re-apply. It also crumbles from your lips, which can be a bit annoying as you can notice tiny little ''dots''.

Conclusion: I love the colour ''Birthday Suit''! However, I am not too fond about the crumbly texture after eating a meal. But it does have a good staying power in general. It also does not dry your lips out. So for the price I would recommend it if you really like the colour.

I bought the Sleek Matte Me Lip Cream in Birthday Suit for £4.99 at Pauls Hair and Beauty World
